3D Design & CAD Modeling: Hands-on instruction in Tinkercad, learning to design hydrodynamic boat hulls, mast supports, and keel structures ready for 3D printing.

Hydrodynamics & Sail Aerodynamics: Exploring buoyancy, hull drag, center of lateral resistance, and how sail shape and area harness wind energy for maximum speed.

Prototyping to Performance: Translating digital designs into functional watercraft, balance tuning, and testing hull stability in water.

Recommended Ages: Kids, teens, adults, and families (Ages 9+ or younger with adult assistance).

Skill Level: All skill levels—welcoming beginner families, young makers, and competitive tech enthusiasts interested in CAD and fluid dynamics.

Session 1 – Hydrodynamics & Tinkercad Design (60–90 Mins)

An introduction to boat mechanics, buoyancy, hull drag reduction, and sail dynamics. Attendees receive step-by-step instruction in Tinkercad to start building and customizing their sailboat hulls and keels.

Session 2 (Optional) – Design Lab & Open Modeling (60–90 Mins)

Dedicated hands-on design time! Attendees refine their 3D models, balance weight distribution, and optimize sail mounts with live, one-on-one instructor guidance before designs are printed.

Session 3 – Assembly & Regatta Tournament (60–90 Mins)

Attendees receive their 3D-printed hulls, assemble masts, rig sails, and conduct buoyancy and trim checks. The workshop culminates in a live, time trial raingutter race tournament complete with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.

Venue Requirements: Venue must provide laptops or computers with web browsers and internet access for attendees to use Tinkercad. All software instruction, water race tracks, sails, timing systems, and trophies are provided. 3D printing of boat hulls can be provided for a fee.
