Design, 3D model, and launch your own custom glider across a 3-part aviation series, combining CAD design, aerodynamics, and trim tuning to compete for distance and flight accuracy.
No prior knowledge required!
3D Design & CAD Modeling: Hands-on instruction in Tinkercad, learning to construct lightweight airframes, custom wing profiles, and tail stabilizers ready for 3D printing.
Aerodynamics & Flight Dynamics: Exploring key principles of flight—lift, drag, thrust, and weight—alongside center of gravity and wing dihedral stability.
Flight Tuning & Trim Adjustment: Balancing aircraft pitch and roll, fine-tuning ballast, and conducting flight tests to achieve straight, long-distance glide paths.
Recommended Ages: Kids, teens, adults, and families (Ages 9+ or younger with adult assistance).
Skill Level: All skill levels—welcoming beginner families, model airplane and aviation fans, and competitive tech enthusiasts interested in CAD and aerospace principles.
Ideal Event Types: Multi-session community tech series, model airplane clubs, youth STEAM challenges, maker space events, and family competition tournaments.
Max Attendance: up to 10 participants for personalized attention.
Session 1 – Aerodynamics & Tinkercad Design (60–90 Mins)
An introduction to airfoil shapes, glider stability, and center of gravity calculations. Attendees receive step-by-step instruction in Tinkercad to start building and customizing their digital fuselage, wing, and tail components.
Session 2 (Optional) – Design Lab & Open Modeling (60–90 Mins)
Dedicated hands-on design time! Attendees refine their 3D models, balance weight distribution, and optimize wing sweep and thickness with live, one-on-one instructor guidance before designs are printed.
Session 3 – Flight Assembly, Tuning & Launch Tournament (60–90 Mins)
Attendees receive their 3D-printed gliders, assemble components, adjust nose ballast, and conduct test flights. The workshop culminates in a multi-round flight tournament testing distance and target accuracy, complete with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.
Venue Requirements: Venue must provide laptops or computers with web browsers and internet access for attendees to use Tinkercad. All software instruction, flight measurement systems, and trophies are provided. 3D printing of airplane kits can be provided for a fee.
